IBE's Mission is to educate - specifically, to help people realize that homes and workplaces can be created to bring the benefits of both health and aesthetics into their living environments. Bringing awareness to the health hazards that may exist in our living spaces not only improves health and provides a sense of well being; it also has an impact on the survival of this planet.

Graduates in North America, Canada and Australia include architects, electricians, builders, medical practitioners, home inspectors, engineers and many other environmentally concerned people. 

Building Biology Standards - Categories of Concern

No Concern – This category reflects natural conditions including background levels found in nature and is the highest level of safe living environment.

Slight Concern – This category indicates remediation should be done whenever it is possible, as a precaution, especially with those who are sensitive or with health concerns.

Severe Concern – This category urges a call to action.  Values are not acceptable from a Building Biology point of view.  Remediation should be carried out soon.  Scientific studies and numerous case histories indicate biological effects and health problems within this reference range.

Extreme Concern – These values call for immediate and rigorous action.  International guidelines and recommendations for public and occupational exposures may be reached or even exceeded in this category.
